ZS Kalna Smīdes 1

The beekeeping and organic farming business "KALNA SMĪDES 1" is located in Drabeši parish, Amata municipality, right next to Gauja National Park (GNP), on the banks of the Amata river. The family business was founded 34 years ago. The farm's 300 bee colonies produce honey from the flowering trees, shrubs and plants of the GNP and from nectar plants sown specially on the farm - buckwheat, melilot and phacelia - on 150 ha. The company's colony management technology (4 mobile pavilions holding 12 to 30 colonies each) makes it possible to move the colonies to new pastures many times over quickly, making efficient use of both natural and cultivated nectar plants and producing a diverse range. This allows us to offer consumers a unique buckwheat-melilot blossom honey, a premium wildflower honey, an exclusive creamed honey with a soft, smooth texture and gentle, pleasant flavour notes, comb honey, beeswax candles and biologically active bee products. Products are available at retail and wholesale. Delivery is available in Rīga. The company's products have earned the trust of consumers in Latvia, as several significant awards attest. On 07.06.2017 the farm "Kalna Smīdes 1" signed agreement No. SKV-L-2017/308 with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia to receive support under the measure "Promotion of International Competitiveness", co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. With this support the farm "Kalna Smīdes 1" created a new, internationally competitive brand "Northern Biome", as well as a new packaging concept and designs for honey and other bee products.
